Someone please make a CGI-heavy movie where a pod of hippos take to the ocean and get into a war with a pod of killer whales. Thanks.
A bad idea can spread like a mutated germ. If it is at all interesting, it can leap from one mind to another halfway across the universe before it has a stop put to it. Look at the ruinous fads and foolish fashions which have nuisanced mankind even in the ages of the highest orderliness. We today know that variety, flexibility, danger, and the seasoning of a little hate can make love and life bloom as they never bloomed before; we know it is better to live with the complications of thirteen thousand old languages resurrected from the dead ancient past than it is to live with the cold blind-alley perfection of the Old Common Tongue.
- Cordwainer Smith, “The Dead Lady of Clown Town” from We the Underpeople (This book is crazy.)
I’ve just started reading Cordwainer Smith. I feel like I’m going insane while I read it. It’s great.
Have I mentioned that Gangsta Boo’s basically one of my favorite rappers ever?
This is the ultimate self-aware retro throwback, of course, but I still enjoy it.
Polyester the Saint has my new favorite rap name, plus he’s trying to bring back the “crouching on the album cover” rapper pose, which is an old favorite.
I had a five-minute period of really liking Freddie Gibbs. Now I like him just enough to check for him when he’s already on something.

SUBATOMIC PARTY GIRLS IS OUT TOMORROW! Before their big launch every magazine in the country (and several from outside of the country) has been trying to get the girls to do a photo spread and interview. It’s been CRAY. There’s even a sneak preview of Beryllium Steel’s historic launch to the moon over at CBR!!
And there’s still time to preorder the first digital issue HERE (and it’s a digital comic so if you miss the preorder, you can just buy it whenever).
P.S. I need to tell you guys that two of those magazine cover blurbs are 100% lifted from Cosmo because I couldn’t think of anything worse than what already existed. “12 NEW MEN SKILLS” and “BUTT FACIAL”. I’m not even joking. I’m 95% certain that butt facial just means putting skin care products on your butt and I’m not sure why it needs a headlining article because I’m pretty sure that most butts have skin on them. Also, wtf are men skills?
I am looking forward to reading this comic.

How many people do you think got shot for using these pistol cameras before they stopped making them?
So it’s come to this, an action figure specifically of the fucked up 8-bit version of Jason from the terrible Friday the 13th game.
My first system was an NES that I bought from a friend when he’d grown sick of it (‘cause he had a SNES) and this was one of the terrible games I got from him. Also Yo, Noid! Ugh.
A teenage Ray Bradbury with Marlene Dietrich.
I was madly in love with Hollywood … I skated all over town, hell-bent on getting autographs from glamorous stars. It was glorious. I saw big MGM stars such as Norma Shearer, Laurel and Hardy, Ronald Coleman. Or I’d spend all day in front of Paramount or Columbia, then zoom over to the Brown Derby to watch the stars coming or going. I’d see Cary Grant, Marlene Dietrich, Fred Allen, Burns and Allen—whoever was on the Coast. Mae West made her appearance—bodyguard in tow—every Friday night.
Talib has some interesting things to say, IMO, even if you are a rap listener who doesn’t care for Kweli’s music. It should give some perspective on how, I think, lots of people approach rap music.
I’ve had a very up-and-down relationship with Kweli’s music in the past… oh sweet God it’s been 15 years (I had to stop and do the math), but this is definitely worth a read.
“My name is MC God Body, I’m here to tell you about…”
There is shaming that actually makes people cut shit out, and there is shaming that only makes the people doing it feel better about themselves.
I’m not sure which kind this is. Listing them makes sense. Having an immediate link to tweet at them seems a little like sharing random racist tweets.
